Marcel Smetsers

Marcel Smetsers, based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, serves as a public prosecutor with a focus on cybercrime. Prior to assuming his role as a prosecutor, he served as a policy advisor High Tech Crime at the National Public Prosecutors’ Office and worked as an investigator for the Dutch Police. In each of these capacities he actively participated in numerous international cybercrime investigations.

Marcel’s passion for technology and computers has roots dating back to around 1998 when he first installed Debian Linux. Even with his increasingly limited free time, you’ll still sometimes find him immersed behind a keyboard, tinkering with his homelab server.
