Haroon Sheikh is a senior scientist at the WRR, the Scientific Council for Government Policy, which informs and advises the government and parliament on major societal issues such as the tilting world order, climate policy, sustainable healthcare and more. As a special professor of Strategic Governance of Global Technologies at VU University Amsterdam and formerly the head of the Freedomlab Thinktank, Sheikh has a rich background in public administration, political science, and philosophy from Leiden and Oxford, and holds a PhD in philosophy with research focusing on how ancient traditions influence modern societies. At the WRR, his research specifically addresses the intricacies of the tilting world order. Sheikh’s is moreover an appreciated author, a columnist for NRC Handelsblad and contributes to VU’s PPE (Philosophy, Politics and Economics) and Philosophy of Culture and Governance programs.
