Tony is a graduated Master of Science from Delft University of Technology (‘86) Electrical Engineering, and a graduated Master of Business Administration in General Management from the Rotterdam School of Management / Erasmus University (‘98). (Not to be confused with Tony’s cousin, also Tony van der Togt, who is an MA and worked at the Clingendael Institute as Russia expert)
He started his career in 1987 at Royal Dutch Shell, where he worked for different Shell companies in The Hague, Rijswijk (Netherlands) and Stavanger (Norway).
In 1998 he switched to PinkRoccade, where he became Business Unit Director for PinkOnline B.V. until 2001. In 2002 Tony was one of the founders of VirtuosoMedia BV, a software company for ‘Security Digital Rights Management’ solutions for audio and videoencryption.
Since 2006 he is working for the Dutch Government in innovation and security related roles. He is currently one of the advisors in the team of the Dutch Government Federal Chief Information Security Officer. He was the author of the Dutch Government Cloud Policy 2022 and currently working on improving cyber resilience and digital autonomy in the Netherlands.
