Titta leads C4ADS’ Organized Crime Program. Titta has over a decade of experience analyzing the operational networks of non-state actors, including designated terrorist organizations, drug trafficking rings, and kleptocrats. Titta’s analysis has directly informed U.S. and international enforcement actions, including targeted OFAC and EU sanctions designations against corrupt PEP networks in Eastern Europe and the Western Balkans as well as asset freezes of criminal actors operating out of Haiti and the United Arab Emirates. Prior to joining C4ADS, Maria co-authored a book chapter on the recent expansion of the Italian mafia and one on civil war onset and the future of civil war studies. Maria earned her M.A. in Security Studies at Georgetown University and her B.A. in International Affairs at John Cabot University in Rome, Italy. She is currently working on her PhD in Justice, Law, and Criminology at American University. Her primary research interests include transnational organized crime, terrorism, and political violence.
