“With years of global experience in IT, Hans joined Damen in 2008 and has been one of the key figures in transforming a fragmented, decentralized shipbuilder with outdated IT and security solutions into a global enterprise with a strong focus on digitalization. As the leader of both the architecture and security practices, Hans laid the foundation to redefine IT services within Damen, establishing a roadmap for change. This transformation led to the creation of a global IT service provider that serves over 30 locations worldwide.
Under his guidance, Damen has received several IT-related awards in the past year, including best product awards for their Triton by Damen Smart Vessel Monitoring system. In 2023, his direct colleague with whom he embarked on this journey at Damen, Aart Rupert, was honored as CIO of the Year. Hans is a fervent advocate for security and privacy by design and brings to the table 30 years of experience, from war stories abroad to tactical decisions focusing on smart vessel data before it was considered a “hot” topic.”
