As part of the NIS2 program, we are making major steps in modernizing the National Detection Network (NDN). Traditionally focused on network sensors within the central government, the NDN is now being expanded to support new technologies, including detection capabilities in cloud environments. We’re also making the NDN scalable, enabling all NIS2-covered organizations to share and receive threat intelligence.
This year marks a major leap forward. By the end of the year, all NIS2 organizations will be able to register via the MijnNCSC portal to join the NDN. At the same time we make participating as simple as possible — for example, through integration with cloud providers or managed security service providers (MSSPs). We’ve already established our first working integration with Microsoft Cloud — to our knowledge, a global first.
We’re also enhancing information exchange: the NCSC will not only distribute threat intelligence to participants but will also allow them to easily share their own observations and threat data back with the network, thanks to the adoption of open standards. This creates a unique national hub for cyber threat intelligence and gives us a more comprehensive picture of the threat landscape in the Netherlands while helping organizations in defending their own organizations. This concept was envisioned 15 years ago at the launch of the NDN, but is now truly being realized on a national scale through these innovations.
In this presentation, we’ll show how the Netherlands is building a future-proof NDN, what NIS2 organizations can expect later this year, and the lessons others can take from our approach.
