Keynote – Can Humans Be the Solution? From Shifting Mindsets to Shifting Gears in Cybersecurity Practice

Location:
Mainstage (KWA)
Theme:
Human Impact
Time:
09:15 - 10:00

“Our phishing click rate is 17%.” Statics like this are often used to illustrate the cybersecurity risk employees pose, cementing the narrative that humans are “the weakest link.” But is that the whole story, or can we look at human behavior differently? What if employees could actually become the solution and strengthen an organization’s cyber defense? While many companies deploy awareness training and campaigns to mitigate risk, standard cybersecurity practices rarely treat humans as true partners in the fight against digital threats.

In this talk, Verena Zimmermann will explore the origins of the “weakest link” paradigm, explain why it’s time to challenge it, and outline how organizations can move beyond basic compliance and usability considerations. Adopting a resilience perspective, she will illustrate what it truly means to view the human factor as an asset—and how this shift can transform a CISO’s mindset, organizational culture, and daily cybersecurity practices.
