In this presentation we’ll introduce a structured approach to awareness and training. In 2025 Dutch R&E institutes worked together with SURF to develop a process for awareness. SURF is a National Research and Educational Network (NREN). This process orders the various subjects in a logical order and makes it easier to put emphasis on specific steps depending on the needs of the organization. The goal is to create a common language to improve collaboration and sharing of knowledge between institutions on awareness and training. In this presentation we’ll address common issues in awareness and training by presenting examples and use cases and put them in a larger perspective.
The process includes:
• Risk management
• Behavior change including metrics
• Strategic program
• Operational program
• Communication, informing and training
• Evaluate and report
The key take away is a (free to use under Creative Commons) structured approach to awareness and training. This process was well received on an international congress for NREN’s and will be available in English and Dutch.
It can be used to focus on developing and working on awareness and training in a comprehensive and effective way.
