Director Digital Economy at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy

Jos De Groot heads the Digital Economy Directorate. Digital Economy focuses on the contribution of digitization to the broad welfare and earning capacity of the Netherlands. The Digital Economy directorate makes rules and policy the market for electronic communications, and creates preconditions for a maximum contribution to sustainable economic growth. For large parts of the policy, the action is on the European level. With the ‘Strategy for the Digital Economy’ (2022) there is a focus on the national ambitions:

• Accelerating digitization of SMEs
• Stimulate digital innovation and skills
• Creating the right preconditions for well-functioning digital markets and services
• Maintain and strengthen a safe, reliable and high-quality digital infrastructure
• Strengthen cybersecurity

Jos holds an Economics degree from the University of Groningen and has been with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy since 2002, holding such posts as Energy Market Director and Telecom Market Director. Previously, he held various posts at the Ministry of Finance and was the Financial Counsellor at the Dutch embassy in Paris.
