On the 6th of June 2019 the municipality of Lochem learned that they were hacked and criminals had gained unlawful access to their network. A successful ransomware attack was only just avoided. Transparency about what happened, the actions the municipality took and discussing openly what lessons can be learned is crucial for raising awareness and increasing digital security.
