In 2017 malware is targeting Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) was detected in a critical infrastructure in the middle east. SIS are designed to keep a (chemical) process in controllable conditions even if the main control system was inoperable - and this very system was compromised in a sophisticated manner. The malware named Triton|Trisis|Hatman had the potential to do a lot of harm to people and the physical environment. This talk will describe the way the attack was performed and how to protect against it.
