For over a decade, the Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto has employed a mixed methods approach to documenting and analyzing information controls worldwide. Is has pioneered numerous projects and published dozens od reports that have shed light on issues at the intersection of global security and human rights, including exposing hidden censorship and surveillance systems, and investigating digital espionage campaigns affecting human rights organizations, journalists, avtivists, and opposition groups. In his talk, Citizen Lab Director Deibert will present the group's work on targeted digital espionage against civil sociey, and describe several larger implications around this growing silent epidemic.
